Bug Description

When i change volume the audio stops and takes 5+ seconds to come back.
Indicator-sound crashes because of it.

I get a message about "waiting for sound system" but sometimes eventually the volume changes.

It feels as if there is no DMA with the sound card. Hope you understand what i mean.

Tryed the snapshots on the audio ppa: didn't fix

Hi Flávio,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

I think that it is connected to https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4774 which have addition info (I don't have "waiting for sound system" but sound drop is very noticable). If I remember correctly bug appered first in karmic, and exists in lucid and also upstream alsa1.021 and 1.0.22.1. I'll test latest kernel and/or latest alsa snapshot when I have a bit of time.

I have the same problem. It was definitely happening in karmic. I know other distros don't have the issue (Fedora 12, Opensuse 11.1 & 11.2).

The "waiting for sound system" message didn't happen in karmic, but the sound drop is very annoying. I will try and test Fedora 13 Beta and see if the issue is present there

Hi folks,

Can you please test if you're still having the same problem in Maverick?
If so, and you're not having the same hardware as the original poster (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/SameHardware ), can you please file a separate bug for your issue? Thanks!

Okay. Would it be possible for you to provide a PulseAudio verbose log? Thanks!
